afrOkaans Expands Creative Frontier with Launch of State-of-the-Art Podcast Studio and New Original Series ‘Kwartlemoene’
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — afrOkaans, the award-winning production powerhouse behind some of South Africa’s most iconic television hits like Survivor SA and Hear Me Love Me See Me, is officially stepping into the audio-visual podcasting arena. Today, the company announces the opening of its bespoke, high-end podcast studio in Cape Town, alongside the premiere of the new series, ‘kwartlemoene.’
Hosted by beloved actress and author Milan Murray and sport management expert Gielie Hoffmann, ‘kwartlemoene’ is a refreshing, deep-dive exploration into the intersection of two of South Africa’s biggest obsessions: parenthood and sport.
A New Era of Storytelling
For over a decade, afrOkaans has been synonymous with world-class reality and documentary production. The launch of the afrOkaans Podcast Studio marks a strategic expansion into digital-first, long-form content.
“At afrOkaans, we are storytellers at heart,” says leroux botha, Creative Producer. “The podcast medium allows for intimacy and depth in a conversation. Our new studio is designed to be a sanctuary for conversation, and there is no better way to launch it than with the unique chemistry of Milan and Gielie.”
The Show: ‘Kwartlemoene’
The title Kwartlemoene (Quarter Oranges) evokes the nostalgia of halftime snacks on school sports fields—a symbol of the support, sacrifice, and community inherent in raising children within a sporting culture.
The series tackles the highs and lows of being a “sideline parent,” the psychology of winning and losing, and the life lessons learned through athletics. Whether discussing the pressure of professional youth academies or the simple joy of a Saturday morning netball match, Murray and Hoffmann bring a balanced perspective of heart and head.
The Hosts
Milan Murray is one of South Africa’s most recognisable faces. An accomplished actress known for her roles in Isidingo, Binnelanders, Die Byl, The Wild, and Heart of the Hunter, she is also a celebrated author of children’s books and a co-founder of the My Story Tribe (a tween mental health company). As a mother of two, Milan brings her trademark warmth, curiosity, and “real-world” parenting experience to the microphone.
Gielie Hoffmann is a leading voice in the South African sports landscape. A consultant, public speaker, and expert in sports management and branding, Gielie has spent years analyzing what makes teams and athletes tick. Beyond his professional expertise, he is a psychologist who understands the delicate balance between pushing for excellence and nurturing a child’s love for the game.
