Johannesburg, 29 September 2023 — afrOkaans is thrilled to announce that they have been honoured with the prestigious South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for Best International Format in 2023. The award recognizes afrOkaans’ outstanding work on the acclaimed television series “Survivor South Africa: Return of the Outcasts,” marking the fourth season produced by the company in the Survivor South Africa franchise.

“Survivor South Africa: Return of the Outcasts” brought a fresh and innovative approach to the popular reality competition series. In its ninth season, the show for the first time featured returnee players from previous seasons and introduced a unique premise where starting tribes included players voted out pre-merge and players voted out post-merge.  The season was ultimately won by Season 8 returnee and pre-merge boot, Dino Paulo. “Survivor South Africa: Return of the Outcasts” captivated audiences nationwide and was broadcast on M-Net. Survivor South Africa: Return of the Outcasts was, as with Seasons 6-8, broadcast on Australian streaming Service 10play, Amazon Prime UK and Paramount+, garnering international acclaim.

The 2023 South African Film and Television Craft Awards took place on Friday, September 29th, at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg, where afrOkaans’ outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry was acknowledged with this esteemed accolade. In his acceptance speech, Executive Producer Leroux Botha expressed his gratitude, stating, “I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the incredible crew and cast who worked and played tirelessly to make this exceptional season happen.”

This SAFTA win not only reflects afrOkaans’ commitment to delivering top-tier entertainment but also showcases their ability to push creative boundaries, setting new standards in the South African television industry.

afrOkaans looks forward to continuing its tradition of excellence in producing captivating content that resonates with audiences across the nation and beyond.
